Adding detail to my story

Maori language week Koru art

On Maori Language Week we did the haka. The only funny thing is Mr Fletcher was on the roof and Mr Borcher was on the table. It was so AWESOME!

Contractions

We are learning to find contractions in our stories. We know that contraction are two words that are squashed together. I can find contractions easily because they have an apostrophe in them.

I am good contractions because if I have could not and I squash it together it will be couldn’t.  I know that when I read a book and I see an apostrophe it is two words squashed together. I want to learn how to find the problem and solution in my book.

Fractions

We are learning about fractions. We know that one quarter is when we cut something into four pieces. We also learnt about halves which means we cut something two pieces. Fractions are ½ ¼ and ⅓. With fraction you start with one whole and you cut it into pieces.

I am good at fractions because if I cut one whole into 2 it will be two halves and if I cut a whole into 4 pieces it will be quaters. That way it is fair when you need to share it.

Compound sentences

We are learning to write compound sentences. We know that a compound sentence is two sentences that we put together with ‘and’ ‘but’ or ‘because. It can be tricky to make sure we join two sentences together and not just another word to a sentence.

I am getting good at writing compound sentences because I make my sentences longer using 'becaus' or 'and'. My next step is to add more interesting words in my writing.

Skip counting in 2's

I like maths because I can learn lots from maths. I am really good at skip counting in two's. I am still working on getting better at skip counting backwards from 20.

Capital letters and full stops

Base words and word endings

I love reading because I am good at finding the root word and word ending. I am also good at reading books with more words in it. My next step in reading is to learn to find contractions.
